Atelier Cologne is the first fragrance house entirely dedicated to the legendary perfumery classic, cologne. The creators, Sylvie Ganter and Christophe Cervasel, gave birth to a new olfactive family, the “Cologne Absolue”. Combining innovative constructions and extremely high concentrations, Cologne Absolue is a cologne of character exalting the magical freshness of cologne coupled with the lasting power of eau de parfum. Each Cologne Absolue tells the story of treasured emotions and powerful memories.
“It was the kind of moment you would want to revisit. Everyone was here, gathered on the terrace for breakfast, and the scent of fresh oranges was diffusing in the yellow heat. A symphony of their laughter and waves hitting the cliffs played in the air.”
Orange Sanguine is a zesty and energizing burst of crushed ripe fruit, it plays sweet blood orange juice against bitter orange peel and sensual notes of geranium. It was created by perfumer Ralf Schwieger and is concentrated at 15%, giving this cologne excellent tenacity and staying power.

The first spritz is like a blast of sunshine! The top notes are so amazingly life like, it’s like cutting into a ripe, juicy orange. This is a fragrance that feels both refreshing and elegant, a rare combination for such a simple cologne. As it eventually fades (about an hour), it yields to the more quiet tones of delicate orange floral woods that form the base of this fragrance. What starts out as an intense blast of citrus dries down to a soft and understated scent very much like the first warm day of spring. This is a fragrance that will give you an immediate lift whenever you feel worn down or tired, so keep a travel size bottle (30ml) in your purse for those rainy days.
Layering Tip: There are two schools of thought on layering fragrances. “The Purists” would argue that the fragrance is a finished work of art and any tempering will ruin the perfect balance that the perfumer has achieved. “The Experimentalists” on the other hand look outside the box and see potential in layering fragrance to be able to come up with interesting olfactive combinations and to personalize one’s fragrance selections. If you are an “Experimentalist”, try layering Orange Sanguine with Vanille Insensée. This is a trick I learned from Gerard Camme, President of Atelier Cologne when he visited with us late last year. After doing some more research, I discovered that the safest way to layer successfully is with citrus notes because they blend easily with floral woodsy and even amber fragrances. The base notes in Vanille Insensée are Vanilla from Madagascar, oak wood and amber. The combination of these two colognes yields a gorgeous “creamsicle” kind of scent (tangy, sweet and warm) that will bring you back to your childhood on a hot summer day. I was immediately sold on this complimentary blend and wore it throughout the cold winter months to lift my spirits, I also think it is perfect for the upcoming summer season. Thanks for the tip Gerard!
