“A Moveable Feast” inspired Gérald Ghislain’s creation of 1899. In this memoir, Hemingway recounts his bohemian life in the Paris of the Roaring Twenties. This fragrance conveys the exuberant mood and unbridled creativity of the time.
This one is a “Spicy Meatball”! But only at first. Histoires de Parfum 1899 Hemingway opens with a lot of fresh green, cinnamon and iris, there is a spicy fizziness that tickles my nose as the cinnamon seems to steal the show. As it starts to settle, the green subsides and vanilla starts to peek through to add a a hint of sweetness. Vetiver provides depth and and tames the syrupy combination of the vanilla and amber. Into the drydown the spiciness seems to disappear and you are left with a comforting combination of amber, vanilla, iris and vetiver. An anytime comfort scent; bright and sweet, intimate and peaceful. If you tend to shy away from Oriental fragrances due to their overpowering opulence, then 1899 Hemingway may be the perfect Oriental for you as it is much lighter and approachable, yet it still maintains its sensuality. – Natalie Cola, The Etiket Insider Beauty Editor
