Everyone from SNL to Conan O’Brien has spoofed Brad Pitt’s bizzare ads for Chanel No. 5.
“It’s not a journey. Every journey ends but we go on,” he says. “The world turns and we turn with it. Plans disappear. Dreams take over. But wherever I go, there you are. My luck, my fate, my fortune. Chanel No.5. Inevitable.”
What is inevitable is that this ad would inspire feelings of awkwardness, and of course, parodies on YouTube. Aside from the comedy of it all, I am trying to figure out what Brad is talking about!
Let us now turn our attention to Catherine Deneuve. Perhaps she can clear this up.
“I know that he loves me for what I am deeply. I know because he cares about the little things, he brings my coffee always in a small cup, because it is precious to me. He gives me Chanel No. 5 because I love to put it in a special place, behind my knee.”
Here is what I take away from Catherine Deneuve’s ad: It is the small things in life that can be the most meaningful. The tiniest gestures of love such as the right coffee cup and the way you wear your beloved fragrance. It is about the mystique, femininity, charm and classicism that is Chanel No 5.
Brad is trying to evoke what a woman wearing Chanel does to him.
