Skin Care Tip: Skin Cancer Prevention – Skin cancer is one of the most common cancer diagnosis and it is the most preventable. Follow these tips to keep your skin safe and healthy:
- Get an annual skin checkup
- Wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day
- Stay out of the sun as much as possible, especially during the hours of 10am to 4pm when the sun is the strongest
- Be aware of your brown spots and freckles
- Follow the ABCDEs and talk to your skin care professional if your moles have:
- Asymmetry, where half of the mole is unlike the other half.
- Borders that are irregular in shape, ragged, notched or poorly defined.
- Colour that varies and contains shades of tan and brown, black, white, pink, red or blue.
- Diameters that are the size of a pencil eraser or larger.
- Elevation of the mole, or the area is raised and/or has an uneven surface.
