Tata Harper Skin Care was launched in 2005 when Tata found that the formulas of the majority of daily use products, including cosmetics, contained chemicals or petroleum-based ingredients. Tata’s mission then became clear: to offer a range of skin care products that are 100% natural and organic. She then moved to Vermont to live on a 12,000 hectare farm (called Julius Kingdom Farm) with her husband and children. A few years later, the Tata Harper Skin Care range was born and quickly became the must-have of fashion models, health & beauty enthusiasts, and celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Julianne Moore. The line also found great success in luxury retail establishments such as Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, as well as world-renowned spas and of course our boutique, Etiket!
This fall we were thrilled to have the opportunity to visit Tata’s farm in Vermont! Tata took us on a tour of the property with its endless fields, overflowing gardens and the headquarters for the entire Tata Harper Skin Care operation (all products are manufactured, packaged and shipped from the farm). We spent the afternoon with Tata picking her “green brain” and learning about her daily life. Meet the woman behind the brand in The Etiket Questionnaire!
A good day starts with… Juice! We make one at home that has 10 fruits: strawberries, raspberry, blueberries, apricots, plum, apples, pears, orange…
I feel great when I… dance! It’s how I exercise. I often dance with my kids. I do free weights but I love dancing.
I never leave the house without… blush! I am using a new one that we have launched. It’s the pink one, called “Very Sweet”. I can’t leave the house without blush! It’s like a cream. It was launched about a month ago but I have been using it for about a year now.
My next guilty pleasure purchase is… OMG, I have so many! Right now, I am obsessed with a new Ralph Lauren wrap skirt that is all in cashmere and a new Tom Ford biker bag in suede.
The place I always come back to is… My farm.
My personal style can be described as… I don’t know how to describe it! I am definitely contemporary and classic and I like to add a twist of vintage. Is that a style? I like mixing new and old, expensive and cheap… but it definitely has to be comfortable!
The skin care product I can’t live without is… Elixir Vitae. It’s my ultimate beauty potion!
When I travel, I always make sure that I… carry all my skincare products on to the plane: Aromatic Irritability Treatment, Hydrating Floral Essence and Replenishing Nutrient Complex – to avoid dehydration from all that recirculated dry air.
When I want to relax, I need… a glass of wine.
When I have a bad day I always… try to end the day with a long meditation session to help me get all the negative energy out of my system. I find inspiration in… everything! The everyday living really inspires me.
My go-to gift is… It’s not really a gift but I always go to this site called One Kings Lane. That’s where I find all my gifts.
Iwould never want to miss out on… a vacation with friends.
In my fridge, I always have… raw milk. We get it from our neighbour.
On my night table I keep… my body oil (Revitalizing Body Oil). I put it on at night, when I’m in bed. I put it on my husband and I put it on my kids.
My perfect weekend is… probably with friends and family. Especially with my family in Columbia, who I don’t get to see that much.
My most inspiring travel moment was when… it was probably when we traveled around Norway. It was really inspiring… seeing the countryside, the beach, the Fjords, and the mountains.
The inspiration behind Tata Harper Skin Care is… to make people beautiful and keep everyone healthy.
If I had to lose one of my five senses it would be… Omg, definitely not my sight, definitely not my hearing… probably smell…no, you know what, taste would probably be the one I would go for.
The one question I want to be asked in interviews is… Hmmmm? I never thought about that. (Long silence). Probably, “do natural products work as well as synthetic products?”. I would answer “Absolutely! We can get all the same performance and results.” A lot of people are conditioned to believe that because natural product evolved to supermarket settings, they were never really formulated to be high performance, high-tech products. Because they are natural, performance and how they actually work was never really a big focus, so a lot of people believe that they don’t work and this is because they haven’t experienced luxurious, scientifically formulated natural products. I always love the opportunity to challenge that misconception.
